Summary of Experience: Associate Professor Chitlada Areesantichai, Ph.D. is Assistant Dean at the College of Public Health Sciences, Chulalongkorn University. She works as the director of the Drug Dependence Research Center (DDRC), the Health and Social Sciences and Addiction Research Unit (HSSRU), and the Chula HealthStreet program. She completed a Doctoral Degree in Research for Health Development, Chulalongkorn University and has been trained in epidemiology and data processing at the National Drug Research Institute (NDRI), WHOCC for the Prevention and Control of Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Curtin University, Perth, Australia. She was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Epidemiology, which is in both the College of Public Health and Professions and the College of Medicine, University of Florida (UF), U.S.A.

Dr. Chitlada has experience in many research and academic areas i.e. alcohol, tobacco, substance and HIV/AIDS. She also conducts and oversees research in drug dependent populations, IVDUs, MSM and transgender populations. Her research focuses on national household surveys to estimate drug and alcohol abuse, community action and alcohol harm reduction. Related to this, she initiated alcohol prevention and intervention models, including one of the most important alcohol intervention models--TGCBI. Her works have been published in national and international journals. She is a member of the Administrative Committee of the Substance Abuse Academic Network, Office of the Narcotics Control Board, Thailand. She has done a best practice project, "Money Box" to reduce harm from alcohol use, WHO SEARO. In addition, Dr. Chitlada is the Founding Director of the Chula HealthStreet model—a community engagement program modeled after that of the University of Florida’s HealthStreet, directed by Linda B. Cottler, Founding Director.

Research Interest: Molecular biology, antimalarial drug resistance, medicinal plant molecular authentication, DNA fingerprinting.

Summary of Experiences: As the lecturer in molecular biology at the College of Public Health Sciences, Kanchana Rungsihirunrat’s recent research has been focusing on the mechanism of drug resistance in malaria parasite. Her research’s primary goal is to understand the genetic diversity and to study how the malaria parasite becomes resistant to antimalarial drugs. The research team and collaborators have been conducting field research as well as laboratory research to explore how malaria parasite genetic and human host are related to treatment outcome and to the spread of drug resistance. Currently, a large number of medicinal plants have been identified as potential antimalarial drugs and drugs for other diseases. By conducting research related to malaria parasite and medicinal plant using molecular techniques, Kanchana Rungsihirunrat has more than 20 peer-reviewed scientific publications.

Summary of Experience: Wattasit Siriwong is an associate professor in Public Health, specialist in Environmental Health and Human Health Risk Assessment.

Dr. Siriwong is the Deputy Dean (academics affairs) and the executive board member of the College of Public Health Sciences (CPHS) at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. He is the National Advisory Expert Panel for Environmental and Health Impact Assessment (E-HIA) Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and the National Expert Committee for Environmental Health and Public Health. Dr. Siriwong has over 15 years of experience performing research on occupational exposure and human health risk assessment; several studies have been focused on farm workers exposure to pesticides and other environmental contaminants. He had a 5-year collaboration with Thai-NIH Fogarty International.

As the chief, Dr. Siriwong initiates research and training programs for college students, doctoral students, and post-docs at the Center for Risk Analysis and Health Surveillance (C-RAHS) at Chulalongkorn University. He has published more than 100 international papers in peer reviewed journals such as Human and Ecological Risk Assessment (HERA), Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, Ecological Indicator, Journal of Health Research (JHR), etc. He is the associate editor for Human and Ecological Risk Assessment: An International Journal and Co-Editor for Journal of Health Research as well as co-authorship of book chapters in the field of environmental health. Dr. Siriwong received the Outstanding Young Lecture Awards in 2013, Chulalongkorn University and the Distinguished CPHS Researcher Award in 2010, 2015, 2017, Chulalongkorn University and he was elected to the Collegium Ramazzini in 2018.

Summary of Experience: I have research experience on both genome-wide association studies and herbal medicine. During Ph.D. study, my research focus was about the analysis and isolation of phytochemical compounds as well as the evaluation of biological activities of herbal extracts especially those from Thai traditional medicine. From now on, I would like to pursue my research on these aspects in order to provide more scientific evidence supporting the use of Thai medicinal plants with best efficacy and acceptable safety outcomes. Additionally, I am interested in the development of innovative natural products for health promotion and medicinal purposes.

Summary of Experience: I graduated from School of Public Health, Taipei Medical University and did my postdoctoral fellowship at College of Medicine, National Taiwan University in Taiwan. Since my background is microbiologist, so my research focus was emphasized on bioaerosols and health related outcome. I have developed the land use regression model (LUR) to predict the ambient bioaerosol levels. The LUR models were used to estimate the exposure levels among the residents in the Greater Taipei area and further evaluate their health outcome. Moreover, my research also pay attention to occupational exposure as well, particularly the agricultural industry. Currently, I’m conducting the research on indoor air quality and health among the Bangkok urban resident and I still have the collaboration with the professors and researchers in Taiwan who is the expert on air quality and health.

Summary of Experience: Dr. Phanumartwiwath received his D.Phil. degree in Organic Chemistry from University of Oxford, and has specialised in protein modifications using chemical approaches to develop novel tools for investigation of biological events such as apoptosis detection. His research interests focus on chemical modifications and bioconjugation of biomolecules (e.g. proteins or antibodies) to extend their structure and function diversity, leading to the development of modified biomolecules for drug discovery and development. Also, he has emphasised on the natural products research involving structural modifications and biological activities. Structural modifications of natural products can improve their biological activities, and also develop their analogues as lead compounds in an area of medicinal chemistry researches. Furthermore, he is interested in a design of some useful and simple detection kits which can be applicable to medical and public health sciences.

Since I graduated from Biomedical Sciences, I also have an attention to conduct in interdisciplinary research in Translational medicine in term of novel biomarker of cancer and epigenetic mechanism. In addition, my research also pay attention in aging mechanism, aging prevention, burn and wound healing from natural products in order to develop products and innovation in anti-aging and burn treatment which could be benefit for health promotion.
