Drug Dependence Research Center

WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Drug Dependence (DDRC/WHOCC)


Drug Dependence Research Center presently is under the College of Public Health Sciences, Chulalongkorn University. It was established in 1977 under the Institute of Health Research, to coordinate and execute research on alcoholic beverages, substance abuse and related problems. In recognition of its performance, in 1981 the WHO designated the Center as WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Drug Dependence (DDRC/WHOCC).

 

The DDRC/WHOCC is to promote and execute multidisciplinary research in health sciences/related subjects for social and economic development. It provides laboratory facilities for chemical analysis and molecular biological study. After 1980s, the research areas have expanded from illicit substance to alcoholic beverages, other substance with addictive potency and medicinal drug misuse/abuse including HIV/AIDS and sexuality.

 

The research activities are executing research/research development; collaboration with national/international agencies in developing and implementing the program concerning policy planning, intervention and assessment; distributing information, and technical knowledge for better understanding.
